Why irrigate your landscape with potable water when you could reuse your wastewater? You can use water that otherwise would drain into a wastewater system to irrigate your plants. Reusing water alleviates the demand for fresh water, which is especially important in arid environments. Plants absorb the additional nutrients found in drain water and convert them into new growth.
San Isidro Permaculture designs and installs:
- Greywater systems, which collect water from showers, baths, and washing machines and reroute it for use outdoors.
- Blackwater systems, which collect and treat water containing waste (human, animal, or food) so it, too, can be used for irrigation (on nonedible landscaping).
- Constructed wetlands, which use physical and biological processes to remove sediments and contaminants from wastewater, thereby purifying it and sustaining a pleasant marshy landscape.
